If you've never attended a science fiction convention, you should try one. You'll meet a host of readers and writers who think the way you do! And don't hesitate to e-mail me (Louise) with questions, comments, or just to say hello! |

Upcoming
Conventions I'll be at Readercon, which was a great experience last year. I don't get to the Northeast often, and it was lovely meeting new fans. I'm also going to be a guest at Omegacon, a new convention in Birmingham, Alabama, along with Kay Kenyon. This one is expected to be enormous. The organizers are ambitious, but seem to be doing a great job. And it will be the occasion of the reunion of the folk trio Earthwood:
Earthwood will perform on Friday and Saturday nights at OmegaCon. These performances will be retro on so many levels! Music samples will be available soon. Please check back! Write on the River, the writers' conference in Wenatchee, Washington, was a huge success, thanks to founder Kay Kenyon. It's the only writers' conference on the east side of the state, and was wildly popular--sold out at 150 attendees. I'm sure it's going to become a tradition.
Kay Kenyon and Toby Bishop will be at the University Bookstore in Seattle on April 9th, 7:00 p.m. There will be cookies! If any reader is unable to get to a booksigning and would like a signed, personalized bookplate, please send me an e-mail. I'd be happy to send it along. Write me at Louise Marley
Norwescon, held in SeaTac, Washington (south of Seattle) on Easter week, was about as lively a convention as I've ever seen. If there was any doubt about whether fandom is alive and well, I think the attendance at Norwescon would dispel it. On June 26th, 2003, I was invited into a discussion group as part of an advisory committee for Seattle's Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. The museum opened in June 2004 with a galaxy of stars present, including writers Greg Bear, David Brin, Octavia Butler, and a host of others, and actors Nichelle Nichols and George Takei--who, by the way, both look as if they haven't changed a bit since the first Star Trek series. This could be the best thing to happen to science fiction since Mary Wollestonecraft Shelley penned Frankenstein. It's worth a trip to Seattle. |
